~The “Green-ness” of Fine Silver

Fine Silver is one of those strange and unique compounds that amazes the mind and intrigues the senses. It is eco-friendly and has a higher silver content than that of sterling.

Fine Silver is formed from recycled and reclaimed silver from, among other sources, discarded exposed photographic film. It is broken down into microscopic particles and combined with a non-toxic cellulose-based organic binder. It can be manipulated into whatever shape the artist can imagine. And when fired in a kiln, burns away the binding agent and you are left with 99.9% pure silver. Revolutionary in its uses, unending in its capabilities, and still relatively new in the precious metals industry, Fine Silver has become a highly respected medium used by metal smiths and clay artists alike.

Each piece I create is completely original and one of a kind (OOAK) with all the delightful imperfections of a handmade work of art. Imperfections should not be regarded as defects and do not harm or enhance the structural integrity or durability of the piece. All my Fine Silver pieces are stamped with the .999FS mark of 99.9% Pure Fine Silver. Since Fine Silver is a higher content than that of sterling, special care must be taken to ensure the long lasting beauty of these precious metal treasures. Bending may occur when put under pressure. A natural occurrence of shrinkage is inherent during sintering. For this reason, perfect sizing is not controllable. While methods are followed to predetermine sizing, especially with rings, every piece of Fine Silver can shrink at different rates, resulting in sizes that may be slightly irregular. While I typically use only the strongest form of Fine Silver for rings, pendants, and charms, and pieces are tumbled for extra hardness, occasionally certain designs require the unique properties of other forms of this precious metal.

In keeping with the eco-friendly quality of Fine Silver, I use only a natural, organic method for oxidizing all of my Fine Silver pieces. 99.9% Fine Silver is safe for the earth and safe for you!

~Everlasting Beauty

It is recommended that you keep your Fine Silver pieces sealed in an airtight plastic bag while not worn. Doing this, will prevent tarnishing and the need for cleaning. Do not submerge your Fine Silver pieces in jewelry cleaning fluids as this may remove some of the oxidation intended to highlight delicate patterns and surface textures. A light cleaning with a clean, dry, soft cloth or a silver polishing cloth is recommended if tarnishing occurs.
